Coworking spaces are a fantastic option for freelancers, entrepreneurs, and remote workers looking for an inspiring place to get things done. But like anything new, it can take a little time to feel comfortable. To help you settle in, we’ve put together a few unwritten rules that will make your coworking experience smoother and more enjoyable.
1. Be friendly (but respect boundaries)
A simple “hi” goes a long way! One of the best things about coworking spaces is their sense of community, and a quick greeting helps create a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
That said, not everyone is up for a chat while they’re working. While community is a big part of what makes coworking appealing, it doesn’t mean constant networking or small talk.
Most people connect over coffee in the morning, during lunch breaks, or at community events — whether social or professional.
Building relationships takes time, so if you want to be part of the community, try to show up regularly. Even once a week can help you get to know people organically.
And if you’re ever unsure about something, just ask! The community manager is there to help—whether it’s about house rules, equipment, or anything else you need.

2. Be mindful of others
Coworking spaces are for working, so it’s important to minimize disruptions. Keep your workspace tidy, don’t take up extra seats or tables unless you need them, and be aware of noise levels. If someone looks deep in concentration, let them be.
3. Keep phone calls and meetings low-key
If you have a long call or a video meeting, use a designated phone booth or meeting room if available. If not, speak quietly so you don’t disturb others. Every coworking space has different rules about phone calls—some allow them in open areas, others don’t—so check with the community manager if you’re unsure.

And always use headphones for calls and music.Just because you work best with background noise doesn’t mean everyone shares your taste in playlists!
So be respectful and keep it to yourself.
4. Clean up after yourself
Whether it’s your desk, the kitchen, or a meeting room, always leave things as you found them. Wash your dishes, wipe down surfaces, and keep shared spaces tidy. A clean workspace is better for everyone.
5. Use shared resources thoughtfully
Printers, coffee machines, fridges—these are for everyone. Don’t monopolize them, and if something isn’t working, let the community manager know.

6. Stick to your meeting room booking
If you’ve booked a meeting room, be mindful of the time. Staying longer than your slot can disrupt others who have reserved the space after you.
Respecting schedules helps keep everything running smoothly and avoids unnecessary frustration. Respect everyone’s time to ensure a smooth coworking experience for all.
7. Stay home if you’re sick
This one’s simple: if you’re feeling unwell, work from home. No one wants to catch a cold (or worse) from their coworking neighbor.
We’ve all been in a situation where a sick coworker shows up, and everyone else spends the day trying to avoid them. Let’s not be that person. The COVID-19 era reinforced the importance of prioritizing community health, so be considerate and work from home when needed.

8. Share feedback with the team
If you notice something that could be improved, speak up! Coworking spaces thrive on communication and feedback. The team wants to make the space work for you, but they can only do that if they know what you need. Your suggestions will be appreciated, and if feasible, they’ll do their best to implement them.
Coworking works best when everyone respects each other. Follow these simple guidelines, and you’ll not only have a great place to work—you’ll also become part of a supportive, inspiring community where new connections and opportunities naturally happen.
